Education:
Matriculated with four distinctions at the Pretoria Boys High School
in 1965.
Graduated at the University of Pretoria with an MB ChB in 1971.
Was an intern in the professorial units of Internal Medicine,
Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Pretoria Academic Hospital in 1972.
Served in the South African Navy as a surgeon lieutenant commander
from 1973 to 1974.
Was in private general practice in Standerton from 1975 to 1985.
Obtained the M Prax Med degree in general practice at the University
of Pretoria in 1982 and was elevted as a Member of the Faculty of
General Practitioners (MFGP) of the College of Medicine of South
Africa in 1989.
Awarded the Louis Leipolt Memorial Award for the best article in the SAMJ in 1986.
Commended his ophthalmologic training at the University of Pretoria under Professor Hennie Meyer in 1985. Obtained the MMED in Ophthalmology with distinction in 1990. Was elected a Fellow of the College of Surgery ion Ophthalmology of the College of Medicine of South Africa in 1990.
Attended St Thomas' Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hopsital in London during 1990. Was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmology in 1990.
Has been in private practise since 1991 at the Pretoria Eye Institute.
Is part time consultant at the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Pretoria and the Pretoria Academic Hospital.
