HEATHER
PEREIRA Heather Pereira qualified as a Medical Technologist at the Witwatersrand Technical College in Johannesburg in 1968 while working for the SAIMR branches at the Krugersdorp Paardekraal Hospital and Discoverers Memorial Hospital, specialising in Haematology. She then qualified as a Computer Programmer at Computer Careers in Johannesburg in 1969. Heather joined the data processing development team at African Eagle Assurance Society Ltd as a Cobol programmer on an IBM 360 mainframe computer in June 1969 and worked for them until April 1973 during which time she gained her diploma in the Assembler programming language at IBM. In May 1973 Heather joined the United Building Society data processing department as a Cobol/Assembler programmer on their on-line banking development team getting involved in systems design. Heather was with them until June 1976. After an absence from the work place for 17 years Heather then joined MHS in 1993 to assist in a pilot study on practice profiling. She has been heavily involved in the development of the IT products and now holds the position of Software Development Manager.
