Work Experience:
After qualifying as a Pharmacist in Port Elizabeth, Tony managed the After Hour dispensaries in PE as well as doing locum work during the day. He opened his own retail pharmacy in 1970 remained as owner until Feb 2001 when the business was sold. His interests also spread to wholesaling & pharmacy computer systems. He served as a director of East Cape Pharmaceuticals for a lengthy period resigning due to his move to Johannesburg. His interest in pharmacy systems grew & became involved in the development of these systems & the updating of data files. At one stage updating services were being provided to a third of the retail pharmacies in SA. The service also includes work for pharmaceutical wholesalers, providing generic linking of products for their on-line ordering systems.

In the early 1990's Tony accepted a position with the Cape Midlands branch of the Pharmaceutical Society to manage the MediKredit (PE) office . The office processed pharmacy prescription claims for the eastern cape besides operating a data capture bureau for debtors. Non pharmacy customers included Volkswagen, Goodyear & Firestone.

In 1996 the Pharmaceutical Society sold MediKredit to the five regional offices & under the leadership of David Boyce, sold on to Pharmaceutical giants – Glaxo Wellcome & Eli Lilly. Tony took the big plunge & moved to Johannesburg in 1997 as Regional Manager of the Claims Processing division of MediKredit JHB. He left there at the end of 1999 to head up Hospiclear (a JV between MHS & IQ Health Tech). Hospiclear is an electronic claims adjudication & verification system for hospital claims. This is also being extended accommodate other disciplines e.g. pharmacy, optometry & doctor claims. Optimax (a Optical front-end system), a recent acquisition by MHS, now falls under Tony’s responsibilities, along with HospiCHEQ and OptiCHEQ.
