"An
acute viral respiratory infection with influenza, a virus causing fever,
coryza, cough, headache, malaise, and inflamed respiratory mucous
membranes."
Influenza
is a systemic illness resulting from infection with an influenza virus,
which are orthomyxovirus types A, B, or rarely C. These viruses can change
their envelope proteins as their host population develops immunity,
thereby maintaining the ability to cause recurrent infection in a single
host population.
