MHS Group - Insight Medicine Management

INSIGHT MEDICINE MANAGEMENT

Insight Medicine Management (Pty) Ltd. is a specialist Pharmaceutical Managed Care Company dealing with, in particular, the issues of pharmaceutical utilisation and expenditure. The Insight team consists of specialist, highly qualified pharmacists with several years’ experience in pharmacology, Drug Utilisation Reviews and Managed Care in medicines. We also work with an expert panel of consultants recognised for their expertise in their respective medical specialities.

Insight Medicine Management is perfectly placed to meet the needs of the changing health care environment. The twin driving forces of rising health care costs and legislative changes have restructured the industry and placed increasing pressure on funders to contain costs, without compromising care. Medicines constitute 30% of payments  made by medical schemes - a significant portion of expenditure. Insight Medicine Management works with practitioners in practice to support clinical decision making and facilitate cost-effective utilisation of medicines. We manage the pharmaceutical benefit on behalf of medical schemes and ensure appropriate, cost-effective and rational use of medicines.

Insight draws on the resources of its in-house Drug Information Centre, its drug database and its range of medical texts and journals to underpin its medicine management programmes. Insight offers a range of services including:

MEDICINE MANAGEMENT SERVICES:
  • A range of services tailored to the specific needs of the client. Includes Drug Utilisation Reviews (DUR’s), chronic medicine programmes, formularies, prescriber reviews, drug expenditure analyses, drug policy consultations and patient education,

  • Pre-authorisations for chronic medication benefits,

  • Insight assists medical schemes in their quest to provide quality drug therapy at an affordable cost,

  • Insight does not supply medicines and avoids the conflict of interest inherent in reliance upon the profit margin on medicines to supplement income.

DISEASE MANAGEMENT PROGRAMMES:
  • These care coordination programmes for specific conditions such as asthma and diabetes provide education and support to the patient with the aim of optimising the role the patient plays in the control and management of his/her condition,

  • Compliance monitoring and management, to ensure that patients take their medication and follow other recommendations given to them by their doctors.

CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMMES:
  • Accredited distance-learning programmes relating to current drug developments and treatment protocols for specific diseases and ailments.

  • Topics cover a wide range of clinical conditions such as hypercholesterolaemia, depression, asthma, cardiac failure etc. with an emphasis on currently recommended drug therapies.

  • Patient education leaflets on individual medicines,

  • Lectures, seminars and workshops on the appropriate use of drug therapies.
